Data Visualization and Publication Specialist

MetrumRG is seeking an enthusiastic programmer to join our team.


The role of the Data Visualization and Publication Specialist is to help deliver the results of our quantitative analyses to customers in innovative ways, enabling the efficient extraction of knowledge to support decision-making.

MetrumRG is a world leader in the development of scientific content based on modeling and simulation of biomedical data, and we strive to develop a commensurate quality of presentation in our deliverables. The ideal candidate would develop coding tools and practices to ensure that the best available delivery formats, including web applications and interactive graphic and table formats, are used successfully and routinely. The Data Visualization Specialist would also facilitate the consistent implementation of publication quality static deliverables generated with tools such as Markdown and LaTeX. In addition to substantial coding responsibilities, this individual would be expected to provide internal training to MetrumRG colleagues on the use of relevant presentation and publication technologies, and to advise on the use of these technologies in the context of MetrumRG scientific projects. This individual would also contribute directly to exploratory data analyses in support of MetrumRG scientific projects.


  • Develop innovative formats for delivering scientific analysis results to clients
  • Facilitate the consistent implementation of innovative deliverable formats through code collaboration with MetrumRG scientists
  • Consult with MetrumRG scientists on user experience considerations for anticipated deliverables
  • Assist with exploratory data analyses to support MetrumRG project work
  • Support publication and presentation of results within a reproducible research infrastructure


  • R, Shiny, Javascript, CSS, Markdown and/or LaTeX, unix/Linux
  • Knowledge of principles of user experience
  • Desirable: Python, Ruby, HTML, subversion, git

Education and Experience

  • A 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience is required (data visualization, interactive web design, computer science, or similar)
  • Must have prior programming experience in a work or educational environment in a relevant language
